The Philippines’ bet, Mela Franco Habijan, has won the inaugural edition of Miss Trans Global 2020 held online amid the coronavirus disease pandemic. Habijan bested candidates from all over the world to win the crown for the Philippines during the grand coronation night streamed via YouTube on September 12, 2020. Fresh from his spectacular gold-winning high jump , besting Olympic medalists just a couple of days before in the 9th Ostrava Golden Spike tilt held in the Czech Republic, Obiena picked up the bronze at the Poznań Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on September 11, 2020. The Philippines’ first Tokyo Olympics Qualifier cleared 5.52 meters to tie for third place with Matt Ludwig of the USA, behind the host country’s Piotr Lisek who jumped 5.72m and Robert Sobera with 5.62m. A new book with a Filipino protagonist titled “58 Minutes in Driftland” has been released on Kindle books from Amazon. The new sci-fi adventure novel written by Filipino writer I.S.A. Crisostomo-Lopez features a Pinoy protagonist in the person of Alunsinag Bayani, a 17-year-old Filipino immigrant in the US who is trying to find his place in the world. The teenage Filipino immigrant’s mother Mercedes or “Chedeng” Bayani is a nurse who works at a community hospital in Los Angeles, while his father Artemio “Miyo” Bayani is a travel writer who is mostly out of town on assignment to feature endangered plants or animals. Celebrity couple Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo have donated essential supplies to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina City and Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC) in Manila. The generous amount of medical supply boxes from the couple dedicated the gifts to the hospitals that contain boxes of face masks, face shields, hand soap, and alcohol to be used by the frontliners in the two medical institutions. Mercado, who plays the character of Dr. Maxine in Descendants of the SUN (DOTS) PH , shared on her Facebook page on September 11, 2020, about the good deed along with a heartfelt letter to the medical staff in both hospitals who are risking their lives for the sake of others’ welfare.
